| I started collecting knives on a
small scale in the 1960's. After realizing it was becoming very
expensive, I decided that if I made a couple of knives and sold them, I
could afford to buy better knives for my collection. After I made a
couple of knives and sold them, my collecting days were over. I got
sucked into a black hole and became a so called 'knife maker'. I
spent a fortune buying equipment to forge with, taking classes in jewelry
casting, engraving and traveling to seminars to learn fileworking and get
tips from real knifemakers. I joined the ABS and eventually became a
voting member of the Knifemakers Guild. After a bout with spinal
stenosis and major spine surgery, I sold my forging equipment and
concentrated on making stock removal knives.
Over the years I have been fortunate
to learn from people like Rick Hinderer, Jim Schmidt, Reese Weiland, David
Morton and Sam Alfano. In this industry there are many people
willing to help you if you just ask. And I thank them all.
I enjoy trying new things and my interests seem
to lend themselves well to one of a kind art knives. Most of my
knives have natural materials and extensive file work, with some
engraving and scrimshaw. I like to inlay pearl and stones into the
spines of my fancy folders. In our gallery you will find samples of
a few of the knives we've made.

I
started making custom knives in early 2000, when Larry asked if I wanted to
learn to make knives. He has been teaching me ever since. He still
has a wealth of information that is available to me.
I enjoy creating a
custom knife from raw materials. As of now I make fancy folders.
I use Damascus, Mokume, Ivory, Ebony, Mother of Pearl, Goldlip and whatever
else touches my fancy. I file work blades, backbars and liners in a
multitude of patterns. Each new custom knife incorporates something I've
learned from my teacher Larry Lunn or other Knife makers who have helped me.
There is so much to learn that custom knife making remains exciting and challenging.
In my website you will find samples of a few of the custom knives I've made.
In the past I concentrated on making one-of-a-kind high end collector knives,
presently I have more time available and am making folding knives in all price
categories. If you are interested in one of my knives, call 870-424-2662
and I'll be happy to make a knife in your price range just for you!
